Jamestown man charged with drunken boating

LAKEWOOD – A 24-year-old Jamestown man was arrested for drunken boating after deputies said he struck a dock Sunday night while piloting his pontoon boat, reported the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.

The impact knocked the north deck over at the Chautauqua Lake Yacht Club and tossed one of the boat’s two passengers into the water, deputies said. The pontoon boat appeared to be sinking, according to initial reports.

Nekyle R. Taylor was charged with two counts of boating while intoxicated and reckless operation, said Lt. Thomas Block of the sheriff’s Navigation Unit.

No injuries were reported in the accident, which occurred around 10:30 p.m., Block said.

No damage was reported to the pontoon boat.

“It doesn’t take a lot for a person who is standing up in a boat to be knocked in the water,” said Block. [Taylor] was coming in for the night and did not know the area. When he was coming in, he struck the dock.”

The Lakewood-Busti Police Department also responded to the call.
