Some residents in Lancaster told police they have received IRS scam calls in which a caller claims to be a law enforcement or IRS agent and tells the person they owe the government money. The scammer threatens arrest if the bogus bill is not paid immediately. Sophisticated technology used by the scam artist registers the call as originating from your local police department or the federal government on caller ID.
No law enforcement agency would ever call you and demand you send money, Lancaster police cautioned.
