DWI charge lodged against Town of Lockport driver with 4-year-old in vehicle

TOWN OF LOCKPORT – An Oxford Lane man who had been convicted of drunken driving now faces a felony Leandra’s Law violation after being accused of driving drunk with a 4-year-old girl in his vehicle, according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect, Gary D. Byrd, 50, was charged with felony driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation, endangering the welfare of a child, operating without an ignition-interlock device and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance – cocaine, police said.

Byrd was stopped Wednesday night on South Transit Road, deputies said.
