Power Take: Syracuse, UB should play each other more often

Kenmore native John Wildhack, the longtime ESPN executive who left the sports network to become athletic director at Syracuse, is a longtime Bills and Sabres fan. Here’s hoping he’ll use his power to help his hometown’s sports scene.

Syracuse hasn’t played the University at Buffalo in football since 2007, when the Bulls visited the Carrier Dome and fell, 20-12. Syracuse and UB haven’t met in basketball since 1997, when the Orange won by 12, and haven’t met in Buffalo since 1996, when Syracuse won by 34 in Alumni Arena.

How about annual non-conference games in both sports?

Syracuse plays in the ACC while UB plays in the MAC, but it’s not as if the Orange should view the Bulls as a real threat. Both schools need non-conference games in both sports every year. So why not play Buffalo?

In basketball, UB is no cupcake, but certainly Syracuse could handle two or three home games against the Bulls for every away game in Buffalo in the coming years.
