Orchard Park man admits to insurance fraud

An Orchard Park man pleaded guilty to fifth-degree insurance fraud, Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty Jr. announced Thursday.

In June 2015, Keith Capodicasa, 43, crashed his car into another vehicle but reported it as stolen. After 30 days, Capodicasa received a check for $21,608 from Progressive Insurance Co. paid out to the leasing company that owned the car. Two days later, the vehicle turned up in the Buffalo City Court parking ramp.

Capodicasa, an Erie County Sheriff’s Deputy working in Family Court, has been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

He faces up to a year in jail when sentenced Aug. 11. He has made full restitution, Flaherty said.

Assistant District Attorney Karen Korkuc is prosecuting the case.
