A 22-year-old surveyor was killed while working Wednesday afternoon on Route 39 in Sardinia after the driver of an eastbound car crossed over the center lines.
Samuel Pagano, of South Wales, was working near the westbound lane of Route 39, between Savage Road and Mill Street when he was struck at about 4 p.m., the Erie County Sheriff’s Office said.
The car continued after striking Pagano and crashed into a tree and then a utility pole, which fell to the ground.
The driver, whose identity was not released, suffered a leg injury and was taken to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville.
Volunteer firefighters from Sardinia and Yorkshire provided first aid at the scene.
Pagano was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Crash Investigation Unit of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate.
