Lillian F. Seal, 98, retired registered nurse from DeGraff Memorial Hospital

June 29, 1918 – July 3, 2016

Lillian F. Seal, a retired registered nurse, died Sunday at her Tonawanda-area home. She was 98.

Born in Buffalo, the former Lillian Ryan was adopted and raised by the late Margaret Ryan, and graduated from Annunciation High School in 1936. She went on graduate from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1940, and joined the Army Nurse Corps.

Mrs. Seal served with the corps during World War II from 1942 to 1945, and was stationed in Liverpool, England. After the war, she returned to Buffalo and began her career working in area hospitals, retiring from DeGraff Memorial Hospital in 1983.

In retirement, Mrs. Seal was active in St. John the Baptist Church, and served as a caretaker for her family.

Her husband of 25 years, the late James O. Seal, died in 1968.

She is survived by two sons, Terry M. and Thomas J. Seal; a daughter, Karen M. Lehning, and a brother, Laverne Anderson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Church, 1080 Englewood Ave., Tonawanda.
