NIAGARA FALLS – Was a man caught asleep in the middle of a heist?

Donnell C. Parker, 36, of Grand Ave. was found asleep in the driver’s seat of Jeep Compass at noon on Sunday in the 400 block of Sixth Street , the rear driver’s side window was smashed and a screwdriver and hammer were found on the front passenger seat.

Parker, who was awakened by police, appeared lethargic and his speech was slurred.

When he was asked what he was doing in the Jeep, he said he was “doing a favor for a friend,” whom he only knows by the name – Lisa. He said her keys were stolen and he was using the screwdriver and hammer to try to help her get the car started.

Police were unable to locate the owner to determine if the story was true, but in the meantime they found a tin containing heroin next to the driver’s seat and a glass pipe and copper scouring pad commonly used to smoke crack.

Parker was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and the vehicle was towed away because it was blocking a driveway.
