You know it’s high summer when The Buffalo News’ Jazz at the Albright-Knox swings into action. The festival starts July 10 with a performance by singer Cindy Miller and the Bobby Jones Trio.
For Buffalo jazz fans, Bobby Jones doesn’t need an introduction. He’s already legend for his virtuosity on the Hammond B3 and on the piano keyboard. And Buffalo is lucky enough to have also gotten to know Miller, a recording artist who has sung with many renowned jazz performers and has made several enjoyable appearances on the steps of the Albright-Knox.
Miller opened the festival in 2013 on a hot, beautiful, lazy day. “A veteran performer, Miller has a youthful joie de vivre. If you heard her on the radio, you would think she was in her 20s,” The Buffalo News reported. “She has a marvelous treble range and hits amazing high notes, sometimes out of the blue. She is virtuosic without being pretentious or annoying. Her choice of repertoire was fun.”
Need we hear more? Yes. So be there 2 p.m. July 10 on the back steps of the Albright-Knox. Admission, as always, is free. If bad weather hits, the concert will be held the scheduled rain date, Aug. 14.
