Letter: Trump’s statements are like a comedy skit

Trump’s statements are like a comedy skit

In one of her classic routines, Gilda Radner as Emily Litella would go on a rant. “What’s all this fuss I keep hearing about violins on television? Why don’t parents want their children to see violins?” News anchor Chevy Chase would eventually correct her: “Emily, that’s violence on television, not violins.” And Emily would deliver the punch line, “never mind.” You knew it was coming and it was always hilarious.

I think of Emily every time I hear Donald Trump rant.

“There must be some form of punishment for women who have abortions.” “Never mind.”

“It’s too bad some of the young people who were killed [in the Orlando nightclub] didn’t have guns, you know, attached to their hips. It would have been a different outcome.” “Never mind.”

“I am calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.” “Never mind.”

“We are going to deport all the illegal aliens in this country. All of them.” “Never mind.”

“We have to beat the savages. We’re going to use waterboarding and, frankly, we’re going to go beyond that [and torture them] if we have to.” “Never mind.”

“The other thing about terrorists is you have to take out their families.” “Never mind.”

It is too bad that Radner passed away at such a young age. Emily would have been a perfect running mate for The Donald.
