Afghanistan, Iraq and Gulf war veterans to be honored in Town of Tonawanda

This week in the Town of Tonawanda

Town and Village of Kenmore residents who are combat veterans of the Afghanistan, Iraq and Gulf wars will be honored at 5:30 p.m. today during a ceremony at Kenney Field, 2000 Colvin Blvd.

Music by the American Legion Band of the Tonawandas follows at 7:15 p.m. The event ends with fireworks at 10 p.m. Bring a folding chair. Rain date is Tuesday.

This week:

• A work session of the Kenmore Village Board begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the mayor’s office at the Municipal Building, 2919 Delaware Ave. A regular meeting follows at 8 in Council Chambers. The board will hold a public hearing on a developer’s plan for 37 market-rate apartments in the former St. Paul’s school on Victoria Boulevard, which closed in 2010.

• The town’s Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Room 21 at the Municipal Building, 2919 Delaware Ave.

• The town’s 2016 outdoor summer concert series begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday with Easy Street Big Band at Lincoln Arena, 1200 Parker Blvd.

• The Kenmore Village Improvement Society’s annual Gigantic Kenmore Garage Sale is from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday. A map of sale locations will be posted Friday on There will be a treasure hunt and a “Whad ya Get?” video booth set up at the Village Green in front of the Municipal Building for shoppers to share their favorite finds.
