It’s a pretty easy call to make: July 3 has become one of the best nights of the summer downtown, whether you’re referring to the sporting calendar or not.
Sunday night is the Buffalo Bisons’ 22nd annual Independence Eve celebration with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. There’s a good chance Coca-Cola Field will be full for what would likely be the only time this season and it’s easy to see why.
You get a baseball game, and a solid one at that as the Bisons continue their push to the top of the International League North against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Yankees affiliate. Then you get a postgame concert from the BPO, a great video presentation, a military salute and the season’s best fireworks display. I’ve probably seen 17 or 18 of these shows and they’re always super, perhaps the best annual promotion the Bisons put on.
Some advice for the night: Have patience. With parking. With concession workers. With waiting for darkness to fall and the show to start if the game ends quickly. Get there early and print your tickets at home to avoid the will-call lines at the ballpark. Just soak it all in. It’s great stuff.
