Western New York fire departments, EMS organizations and other local first-responders have been invited to a grant workshop at the Erie County Emergency Services Training & Operation Center at 3359 Broadway in Cheektowaga at 6:30 p.m. July 25.
Rep. Brian Higgins said Thursday that the workshop will deal with how agencies should apply for grants through the federal Assistance to Firefighters Grand Program. Since 2001 the program has awarded about $6.4 billion to agencies nation-wide to purchase much-needed emergency equipment, vehicles and training programs, he noted.
Specialists from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will be present to help applicants understand the application process, eligibility, funding priorities and the evaluation process linked to the grand program. More information on the funding program can be obtained at the federal grant website: http://www.fema.gov/welcome-assistance-firefighters-grant-program or by calling Higgin’s Buffalo office at 716-852-3501, he said.
