Letter: Amherst taxpayers paying for Town Board’s mistakes

Amherst taxpayers paying for Town Board’s mistakes

On Jan. 12, The News published an editorial called “Failing the test.” Attention was drawn to the resolutions by the new Amherst Town Board majority replacing all of the town attorneys. The cost annually is $287,000, not including benefits. This was not a wise decision because the new employees had not been screened by the Human Resources Department for capability.

Now four request for proposals are being advertised on the town’s website for attorney services relating to areas that they cannot do, which had previously been done in-house.

Paraphrasing: “the greatest danger to a democracy is when the public finds it can raid the public treasury.” There seems to be a lack of good efficiency in government by the new Democratic majority – just saying.
