NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. – A 71-year-old man from Germany suffered multiple cuts to his face and head when he left the market trail at the Niagara River Gorge and fell about 20 meters into the gorge north of Thompson’s Point about 2:4 5 p.m. Thursday, police said.
The man, who had been hiking with family members, left the marked path and fell. He was rescued by officers from the Niagara Parks Police, the Niagara Falls Fire Department and Niagara EMS crews and was flown out of the gorge by a Niagara Helicopter.
At the helicopter company’s helipad on Victoria Avenue he was placed in an air ambulance and flown to Hamilton General Hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities did not release the victim’s name.
