Schiller Street standoff ends peacefully

A nearly three-and-a-half-hour standoff between police and a man who had barricaded himself into his home on the first block of Schiller Street ended peacefully about 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The still-unidentified man surrendered without incident, according to Michael J. DeGeorge, Buffalo police spokesman. Police were called to the scene about 12:40 p.m. after the man allegedly had begun making threats and barricaded himself in his house. The police SWAT and Crisis Management Team were called in about 2 p.m. and began negotiations that led to the man’s surrender, according to DeGeorge. The man apparently was “armed” with paint ball guns, DeGeorge said. Schiller was closed to traffic until just after 4 p.m.

There was no indication whether the man will be facing charges.
