The monthly cost of a private nursing home room in the Buffalo area this year is $11,695 and a semi-private room $11,370, considerably more than the national averages of $7,698 and $6,844, according to a new survey by Genworth.
Buffalo’s rates are close to the average costs statewide of $11,330 for a private room and $10,988 for semi-private, the insurance company’s annual report found.
The survey also examined other average monthly long-term costs here: $4,140 for a private, one-bedroom unit at an assisted living facility; $1,040 for adult day health care; $4,481 for a home health aide; and $4,185 for homemaker services.
The average cost of a semi-private nursing home room nationally increased 2.3 percent since 2015 and 3.1 percent over the past five years, according to Genworth. Private room costs, on average nationally, increased 1.2 percent since 2015 and 3.5 percent over five years.
The results are based on 3,600 completed surveys from nearly 25 percent of the nation’s licensed nursing homes, the company said.
