Dr. Robert J. Riek, longtime dentist retired in 2015

Nov. 4, 1931 – June 27, 2016

Dr. Robert J. Riek of Williamsville, a dentist in practice for more than 50 years, died Monday in Erie County Medical Center after a long illness. He was 84.

Born in Johnstown, Pa., he came to Buffalo with his family at the age of 2. He was a graduate of Buffalo Technical High School, the University of Buffalo and the UB Dental School.

Dr. Riek began his practice on Transit Road in Swormville in 1959. He retired last year.

He enjoyed flying in gliders and was a member of the Buffalo Aero Club and the Central Park Men’s Club.

He also was an avid reader and visited many Civil War re-enactments and battle sites.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, the former Elaine G. Jones; a daughter, Linda Marie Gramza; three sons, Kenneth J., James P. and Paul R.; a brother, Thomas; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Friday in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 5480 Main St., Williamsville.
