Canisius High, Nardin grads on Henley winners

Canisius High grad Daniel Jordan rowed in the No. 7 seat for the University of California freshman eight in an elimination race victory over Oxford Brookes University “B” Wednesday at the Henley Royal Regatta on the Thames River in England. The Berkeley crew won by 3-1/2 lengths and will face Drexel University on Thursday.

Jordan was the Buffalo News’ Prep Talk Player of the Year for boys rowing in 2015. When he returns to Buffalo he plans on rowing in the Royal Canadian Henley with Jim Palmer in the Under 23 Men’s Pairs.

Also competing at Henley was Rachel Kelly, a junior from Nardin Academy, who was coxswain for the Cornell varsity heavyweight eight in a win over Westminster School of London in another Temple Challenge Cup elimination race. Cornell will race against Imperial College of London “B” “after the Team Interval” (6:10 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time) on Thursday.
