Canisius basketball signs three recruits

Canisius College announced its first recruits under new head men’s basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon on Monday. The signees include a 6-foot-11, 210-pound center Selvedin Planincic from Indian Hills Community College in Iowa; Isaiah Reese, a 6-4, 190-pound guard from DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Fla. and Dantai St. Louis, a 6-8, 235-pound power forward from Orangeville Prep in Mono, Ont.

Planincic, a native of Sherbrooke, Que., played in 28 games but was not a big scorer for an Indian Hills team that went 29-5 and lost in the first round of the NJCAA Division I nationals in Hutchinson, Kan. He will have two years of eligibility at Canisius.

Reese averaged 10 points, 5.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds for DME last season after graduating from Miami Christian High where he was team captain and All-Dade County the season before.

St. Louis is a Brampton, Ont. native who spent two seasons at Orangeville.

Canisius retains two recruits - Spencer Foley and Malik Johnson - who were signed last November under former head coach Jim Baron. Also, Canisius announced that sophomore Cassidy Ryan and redshirt freshman Isaiah Gurley will not return to Canisius. It leaves the Griffs with two returning starters and eight letterwinners from last season’s roster.
