Raymond D. Owczarzak of Amherst, who founded a marketing research company, died Thursday at Buffalo General Hospital following a short illness. He was 72.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Owczarzak graduated from Canisius High School in 1962, earned an MA degree from Niagara University in 1966, an MBA from the University at Buffalo in 1968, and did post-graduate work at Boston University School of Communications. He attended Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, where he was an altar server until graduating.
He held various creative and marketing positions for the IBM Corp., Young & Rubicam Advertising, and was director of communications for Buffalo Savings Bank and Erie Savings Bank in 1973 to 1974 prior to joining Faller, Klenk & Quinlan, where he rose to the position of executive vice president in charge of creative, marketing, and media services.
Mr. Owczarzak won numerous creative and marketing awards, including the Effie, a national marketing award given by the American Marketing Association.
Mr. Owczarzak was president and CEO of Insight Associates Inc., a marketing research and strategy formulation company he founded in 1990. His clients included many companies such as Best Buy, Tops Supermarkets, Citicorp Mortgage Division, FedEx, First Niagara, Evans Bank, HealthNow, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Rich Products and Tyson Foods. Mr. Owczarzak worked at Insight until his retirement in 2014.
During his retirement, he enjoyed reading, spending time at home with his family and pets, and watching movies.
He also enjoyed hosting barbecues at his summer home in Holloway Bay, Ont.
Mr. Owczarzak is survived by his wife of 26 years, the former Georgia Buscaglia; and his son, Bryan.
Prayers will be offered at 8:45 a.m. Friday in Amigone Funeral Home, 2600 Sheridan Drive, Town of Tonawanda, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church.
