Man returned from Alabama to face charges in 2007 homicide

A suspect in a 2007 homicide was arraigned in State Supreme Court Monday morning, after being returned to Buffalo from Alabama.

Erik “Bucky” Donaldson, who was a federal corrections inmate until last week, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Christian J. Thomas.

Thomas was 22 years old when he was reported missing in January 2008. He was last seen Dec. 30, 2007 near his home on Domedion Street. Buffalo Police issued an alert for information on his whereabouts three weeks later.

Nothing came of it until April 8, when two men notified police that the melting snow had revealed a body between two vacant house on Montana Avenue, on Buffalo’s East Side between East Ferry and Genesee streets. An autopsy revealed the victim had two gunshot wounds, but investigators at the time said it was not clear whether Thomas was killed where his body was discovered or elsewhere.

Donaldson, who was charged with the killing in a 2008 indictment, was jailed in Alabama on a federal weapons conviction. With that sentence completed, he was brought back to Buffalo to face the murder charge.
