LOCKPORT – Sixteen sites opened Monday in Niagara County where children eligible for free school breakfasts and lunches can obtain their food during the summer.
The Niagara County Youth Bureau is operating the program, available weekdays only. The meals are available weekdays and are subsidized by the federal government, as school meals are.
The Niagara Falls sites include 91st Street Playground, D’Amelio Park in the Center Court project, Gill Creek Playground, Gluck Park, Hyde Park Playground, Liberty Park, Lockport Park, Niagara Falls High School, South Junior High School, Stephenson Avenue Playground and the Salvation Army.
In Lockport, meals are served at Altro, Dolan and Outwater parks and at the Salvation Army. The sole North Tonawanda site is in Payne Park.
Additional information about the meal program is available by contacting Meghan Lutz or Rodney Alaimo at the Youth Bureau, 278-6872.
