Village Independence Days celebration expands to four days and includes two parades, one of them the “furry” kind

The village is rolling out the red carpet treatment for its annual Fourth of July family-themed celebration, running from July 1 through July 4 in the heart of the village off West Main Street

The decorative patriotic flags already were being hung by village workers last week in anticipation of the festivities.

Friday showcases a midway & beer garden opening at 6 p.m., with entertainment by The Strangers from 7 to 11 p.m.

Saturday is parade day, with the Patriotic Paws Parade at 9 a.m. Bring your furry friend to parade around the midway.

Saturday’s festivities also include the midway at noon, beer garden opening at 4 p.m., and the Carnival Kids Steel Drum Orchestra on stage from 4 to 6 p.m.

Evening entertainment on Saturday features West of the Mark on stage from 7 to 11p.m.

Sunday’s events include a Star Spangled Arts & Crafts Show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Fireman’s Park. The ride midway opens at noon, the beer garden at 3, Impact performs on stage from 3 to 6 p.m., and Nerds Gone Wild is featured on stage from 7 to 11 p.m.

The 8 a.m. flag raising kicks off July 4, with a faith service following on stage at 9 a.m. A boys & Girls Club 10 K run is at 9 a.m. Noon opens the midway and beer garden, and at the same time, the Lancaster Town Band is on stage.

The big event on Monday is the community parade at 2 p.m. Breakaway performs on stage from 6 to 10 p.m.

Fireworks conclude cap the four-day run of festivities at 10 p.m.

This week:

• The Village Board meets at 6 p.m. Monday in work session preceding its 7 p.m. regular meeting in the Municipal Building, 5423 Broadway.

• The village Zoning Board of Appeals meets at 7:15 p.m. Thursday in the Municipal Building.

• The School District is continuing its door-to-door census of all residents under age 19, and disabled persons under age 22, The canvassing continues through Aug. 13.

• The Lancaster Youth Bureau’s Summer Police and Fire Academies still have openings, and are accepting registrations. The Police Academy runs from July 11 through July 21, and the Fire Academy runs from August 1 through August 11. All of the academies run Monday through Thursday mornings.
