Leonard J. Garr, of Clarence, a computer scientist and mathematician who was a master gardener, died Friday in Hospice and Palliative Care in Buffalo. He was 87.
Mr. Garr was born in Buffalo and received degrees from Canisius College and the University at Buffalo.
Mr. Garr worked at Calspan for 30 years as a computer scientist and mathematician and later at the University of Minnesota Hospital in computer integration.
After retirement, he become a certified master gardener with the Cornell Cooperative Extension, managing soil testing and insect control. He volunteered at Brothers of Mercy Rehab in Clarence and enjoyed all types of music. He played the bass with his brothers in several polka bands.
Mr. Garr is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Genevieve Nowakowski; daughters, Jeanette, Michele and Rachel Moore; a son, David; a sister, Irene Rogacki; brothers, Henry, Edwin, Joseph, Steve and Danny; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 8500 Main St., Clarence.
