Two accused of trying to steal gas from rental trucks

TOWN OF NIAGARA – Two men were arrested Thursday after someone spotted them trying to steal gasoline from trucks parked at the U-Haul lot on Military Road, town police said.

Raymond D. Richards, 32, of Whitney Avenue, Niagara Falls, and Douglas J. Roberts, 35, of Nash Road, North Tonawanda, were charged with petit larceny, trespass and obstructing governmental administration. Police said Roberts also had outstanding warrants for petit larceny and a probation violation.

Both suspects fled as police arrived about 1:30 a.m., according to reports. One suspect was captured after he stumbled while trying to jump over a guardrail and the other was found hiding in roadside brush by a police K-9 unit.
