Flash set franchise record in big win over Boston

The Western New York Flash won in record-setting fashion Friday night. The Flash piled up a franchise record for goals in a 7-1 win over Boston at Rochester Rhinos Stadium.

A hat trick by Jessica McDonald led the offensive explosion for Western New York, while Lynn Williams had two goals and an assist.

Williams opened the scoring, converting a perfect long pass from rookie Makenzy Doniak. McDonald scorer her first of the night less than 10 minutes later, finishing a set up from Samantha Mewis.

After Boston got within 2-1, the Flash poured it on with McDonald getting her second goal off a feed from Williams. McDonald completed the first hat trick of the National Women’s Soccer League season in the second half, tying Carli Lloyd’s franchise record of goals in a game. Kately Rowland got the win in goal in her Flash debut. Western New York (6-4) next hosts Chicago at 7 p.m. next Friday.
