UB men's basketball team to play in Great Alaska Shootout

The University at Buffalo men's basketball team will participate in the 2016 GCI Great Alaska Shootout, it was announced Friday.

UB will play the host team, Alaska-Anchorage, on Nov. 23, then will play games Nov. 25 and Nov. 26. The shootout features eight men's teams and will be held at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage.

UB, two-time defending champion of the Mid-American Conference, is one of three teams in the field that made the NCAA Tournament in March. The other two are Weber State and Iona. Also in the men's field are Nevada, Oakland, Drake and California-Davis.

The event is the oldest continuously running in-season college basketball tournament in the nation. The event also includes a four-team women's tournament.

"We are excited to be part of the 2016 Great Alaska Shootout and have a chance to compete against quality programs from across the country," said UB coach Nate Oats. "The tournament has a tremendous history and we look forward to having a great experience on and off the court."

CBS Sports Network will televise the event for the fifth straight year.
