NEWFANE – A Chambersburg, Pa. man suffered a head injury after an explosion on a 23-foot boat at the Newfane Marina about 9:34 a.m. Friday, according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.
J. F. Carbaugh, 50, was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition.
The Sheriff’s Marine Patrol Unit said the explosion may have been triggered by insufficiently vented fuel vapors in the boat’s inboard engine compartment. The investigation is continuing.
Carbaugh was treated initially deputies and members of the Olcott and Miller Hose volunteer fire companies.
