Five places to celebrate your child's summer birthday

Looking to plan a summer birthday party for your little one? Is their wish to have a wild party with real animals? Maybe one where they can learn how to use a zip line? Or maybe they'd prefer to make their own fairy garden? No problem, they can do it all -  for a price.

There are many options – here are a few places that make it easy to focus on the birthday kid, not the set up or clean up.


Where: The Buffalo Zoo, 300 Parkside Ave.

When: Parties are available most Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 2 to 4 p.m.

What you get: A wild animal presentation and a tour that is personalized to meet the interests of the birthday kid. It is a two-hour room rental, party host, pizza and pop for each child, souvenir bags with animal toy, special animal present for guest of honor, full admission to the zoo for all partygoers.

What party does not include: Cake, candles, food for adults (unless requested), forks and knives, invitations, music.


  • Zoo birthdays require a minimum of ten children and a maximum of 25 children.
  • Guests can bring things like cake, snacks, etc – but no balloons or straws are allowed on zoo grounds.
  • The party allows four adults for free, $8 for other adults attending the party.

Where: Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens: 2655 South Park Ave.

When:  Saturdays from 2 to 4 p.m.

What you get: A tour of the gardens, play time in the Wegmans play area, and your choice of theme:

  • Enchanted Garden – fairy garden planting crafts and take-home fairy crowns or gnome hat.
  • Rainforest Adventure – terrarium planting crafts, take-home rainforest animal masks
  • Tropical Celebration – terrarium planting crafts, take-home leis.
  • Desert Discovery – desert dish with planting crafts and take-home desert safari vests.

What party does not include: Food, cake or any supplies.


  • Activities designed for kids ages 5-12
  • You are welcome to bring a cake
  • Catering is available through Buffalo's Best Grill & Catering (480-1101)

Cost: $200 for 15 children and 10 adults. Additional children (up to 25) are $10 each; additional adults, $7 each. (10 percent discount for members.)

Where: Monkey See, Monkey Do Children’s Bookstore, 9060 Main St., Clarence

When: Saturday morning and afternoon parties available.

What you get: A 90-minute party for 10 children, private room, storyteller, personal party coordinator, specialty themed crafts, juice and bottled water, choice of treat – muffins with fresh fruit, cupcakes or make-your-own sundaes. The Imagination Birthday Party is designed around your child’s favorite book or theme.

What party does not include: Cake.


  • You are welcome to bring a cake but not food, since they supply treats.

Cost: $199, additional children are $15 each.

  • Add character (Disney princess, Thomas the Train, Spiderman, and more), face painting, magic show, or other fun things to the party for an additional cost - $289 for party of ten ($15 additional children)

Where: Rolly Pollies: 4058 N. Buffalo Road, Orchard Park or 9630 Transit Road, East Amherst

What you get: An hour of fun on trampoline, zip line, foam pit, rockwall and bounce house. There are at least two teachers to supervise, and help the kids. They supply plates, napkins, cups, spoons and forks.

What party does not include: Food.


  • Parties are designed for kids ages 8 and younger.
  • You are welcome to bring food, drinks, and a cake.
  • They do ask that all food be nut free.

Cost: $299 includes the birthday child, their siblings and 15 additional children. Additional children are $10 each.

Where: Penn Dixie Site: 4050 North St., Blasdell

What party includes: A one-hour guided tour of the site, unlimited fossil collecting, use of a covered shelter and picnic tables, free parking, a birthday present for your child.

What party does not include: Food, drinks, cake or paper products.


  • You may bring food, drinks, cake, and paper products and utensils.

Cost: $25, plus $7 for each child. One adult is included with every 10 children. Additional adults are $9 to collect fossils or no charge without the fossil collecting.
