Emergency demolition ordered Friday on crumbling building on West Ferry Street

A dangerously deteriorating two-story building at 240 W. Ferry St. that led to the evacuation of a neighboring restaurant was ordered demolished Friday night.

Buffalo fire crews on the scene reported hearing “creaky noises” coming from an unstable wall of the vacant building alongside the restaurant, and part of that wall collapsed before demolition began. The neighboring Wah Sing restaurant at 238 West Ferry was closed for the night by fire officials.

Buffalo police closed off West Ferry between Grant and Herkimer streets during the demolition.
