Former Bill Terrell Owens surprises Bennett High grads

Bennett High School’s Class of 2016 got a big surprise Thursday: Former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Terrell Owens made an unannounced appearance during the graduation ceremony in the school’s auditorium.

During his 15-year NFL career, Owens played for six different teams, including the Bills for one season in 2009. He was invited to the graduation ceremony by Bennett alumna Alvina Alston, the keynote speaker.

Alston graduated in 1989. She began her career as a general assignment reporter with LI News Tonight on Long Island and has worked for about 15 different news organizations. Through her company More Media, based New York City, Alston provides publicity, media training and video production services. She and Owens became acquainted through the media company.

Owens began his career with the San Francisco 49ers from 1996 to 2003. He also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals and Seattle Seahawks. He was a six-time Pro Bowler who logged 1,078 receptions, 15,935 yards and 153 touchdowns.
