Olcott beach closed because of high bacteria count

OLCOTT – Krull Park Beach on Lake Ontario in Olcott was closed Wednesday because of high bacteria readings in water samples, the Niagara County Health Department announced.

The beach, located just east of the mouth of Eighteen Mile Creek, is closed several times each summer because of elevated levels of e. coli bacteria in the water. This is the first closure of 2016.

The beach will remain closed until new test results show the bacteria reading has fallen back to a safe level. Results of the latest samples should be available by the close of business Thursday, the department said.
