The University at Buffalo football team will be seeing lots of red in 2021.
UB Athletic Director Allen Greene announced Tuesday that the Bulls will face the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers in Lincoln, Neb. on Sept. 11, 2021. Nebraska fans, most wearing red, usually pack Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. Not only will it be the first time UB will have faced the Huskers, it will be the first game in the state of Nebraska for a UB team.
The Nebraska game was among three future games the Bulls have finalized contracts for and announced. Greene also announced future dates against Delaware State and Rutgers.
UB will open the 2018 season on Sept. 1 against Delaware State at UB Stadium. On Sept. 22, the Bulls will travel to New Jersey to take on Rutgers. It will be the seventh time the schools have met but first since 2007 and first since the Scarlet Knights became a member of the Big Ten Conference. Rutgers leads the all-time series against UB, 5-1.
UB coach Lance Leipold spent three seasons (2001-03) on the football staff at Nebraska.
“This is a great opportunity for our program to compete against a revered program like Nebraska,” Greene said. “The experience and exposure gained by playing this game will be invaluable.”
UB will kick off its 2016 season against the University at Albany on Sept. 2 at UB Stadium.
