MACHIAS – State Police on Monday charged a Cattaraugus County man with driving with a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit.
A trooper pulled over William J. McMahon, 53, of Machias, just before noon on Route 16 after the trooper reported seeing McMahon drive across hazard markings.
After he failed field sobriety tests, McMahon was taken to the Machias barracks where he registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.18 percent, more than double the legal limit of 0.08 percent, State Police said. He was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated.
Troopers also found a bag of marijuana and a marijuana pipe in McMahon’s possession, for which he was ticketed. He’s due in Machias Town Court later this month.
