David McNamara likes the position Phillips Lytle is in.
So after nearly nine years as the law firm’s managing partner, he is preparing to leave that role and return full time to commercial litigation and project development by year’s end.
McNamara, 55, has guided Phillips Lytle through the Great Recession and its move from what was One HSBC Center to One Canalside. The firm now has about 400 attorneys and staff, including about 300 in Buffalo.
Phillips Lytle has just completed a strategic plan, has a seasoned management and administrative team in place, and is “overall economically very healthy and has very strong practices,” he said.
“There are no acute challenges that would impede a successful transition at the moment,” he said.
The next managing partner is due to be selected before summer’s end.
