ALLEGANY - St. Bonaventure women's basketball coach Jesse Fleming announced Andrea Mulcahy, Jeff Clapacs and Jennifer Pruett will serve as assistant coaches. Alysha Giarra has been named director of basketball operations.
"This is a staff that the St. Bonaventure community will love," Fleming said. "Each member brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience. They come from different backgrounds and have taken different paths, but they share a couple of very important characteristics: They are great people and great coaches."
The retention of Mulcahy previously had been announced. She remains on staff after serving for the past four seasons under previous head coach Jim Crowley. A 2010 St. Bonaventure graduate and former star guard, Mulcahy has helped Bona to an NCAA Tournament berth in 2016 and a WNIT run in 2014.
"Andrea is one of the smartest players I've ever coached," Fleming said. "She's an incredible role model for our players and a dynamic coach. She understands St. Bonaventure and what makes it special. I've had the pleasure of working with Andrea in the past and I'm so excited to be able to keep her at SBU."
Clapacs spent last year as the director of basketball operations for the men's team at East Tennessee State. As part of an entirely new staff at ETSU, he helped the Buccaneers to a 24-12 record including a 14-4 mark in the Southern Conference before finishing the year as the SoCon runner-up with a top 100 national RPI.
He served in the same role for Bowling Green's men's team in 2014-15, serving as part of a staff that led the Falcons to their first 20-win season in 14 years. The Ohio native played at the College of Wooster in Ohio.
"Jeff's experience from the men's side will be a real benefit here at St. Bonaventure," Fleming stated. "His unique perspective will be very valuable. I've known Jeff for a few years and I've always thought he'd be a star on the women's side. His organization, basketball knowledge and mentality will really help us."
Pruett has served as a collegiate coach for four years at Kent State, Longwood and Central Michigan. She has spent the last two years as a high school head coach at Blessed Sacrament Huguenot Catholic School in Powhatan, Va. where she led her squad to a 38-20 record after taking over a team that finished 5-16 in the season prior to her arrival. She was a two-year captain at Ohio University.
Giarra arrives at St. Bonaventure after spending the previous two years as a graduate assistant on the women's basketball staff at St. John's.
