UB logo being restored at football stadium, basketball arena

A new synthetic turf for the University at Buffalo Stadium – featuring the return of “Buffalo” prominently in the end zones– is expected to be completed in August in time for the start of the football season.

The old turf, which is being removed this week, will be reused in Kunz Stadium, which is used primarily for student recreation and intramural sports.

The university is spending $770,000 on the improvements.

In addition, the basketball court in Alumni Arena will be refinished to feature the interlocking UB logo at center court, along with a new tagline, “New York’s Public Powerhouse” on the sidelines. The cost of the arena project is $16,900.

The efforts are part of a university-wide rebranding strategy that moves away from the “New York Bulls” initiative, in favor of what the university said is an emphasis on UB as an institution that tackles big problems with grit, tenacity and pragmatism, reflecting the characteristics of the Western New York region itself.
