One person arrested after large fight, shots fired on Chippewa Street

Police found more than 150 people in the street early Monday morning as they responded to a large fight downtown in which several shots were fired.

A crowd had spilled out into the area of Delaware Avenue and Chippewa Street at about 3 a.m. following a party at The Lodge, 79 West Chippewa St., police said.

Multiple shots were fired, but police received no reports that anyone was injured by the gunfire. One person, whose identity was not released, was charged with several counts of disorderly conduct, harassment, obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest, Central District Chief Joseph A. Gramaglia said during an afternoon news conference in Niagara Square.

One person was being treated in the trauma unit at Erie County Medical Center, but the person’s condition was not available Monday afternoon.

Police have collected shell casings and are reviewing video surveillance footage from the area.

The event at The Lodge was run by a promoter, Gramaglia said. There were no reports of incidents involving the party prior to the fight call, he said.
