Diocese to observe annual ‘Fortnight for Freedom’

The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo will observe the annual Fortnight for Freedom, a national campaign to promote religious liberty, with a series of events beginning Tuesday with a vigil Mass of the Feast of St. John Fischer and St. Thomas More at 4 p.m. in the Dominican Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary, 335 Doat St. Rev. Robert Zilliox will be the celebrant.

The closing Mass will be offered at 4 p.m. June 30 in the Carmelite Monastery, 75 Carmel Road. Rev. Jacek Mazur, pastor of Divine Mercy Parish in Niagara Falls, will be the celebrant.

Among the parishes holding events, St. Leo the Great Church, 885 Sweet Home Road, Amherst, will offer a night of freedom, faith and film, beginning with food at 5 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a talk on religious liberty by Rev. Peter Calabrese, associate director of the Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, Youngstown, and a screening of the film about St. Thomas More, “A Man For All Seasons.” All are welcome.
