Minivan-motorcycle collision in Lancaster critically injures Elma man

An Elma man remains in critical condition after his motorcycle collided Friday with a minivan at Bowen Road and Summerfield Drive in Lancaster, sending him and his wife to the hospital.

Lancaster Patrolman Shaun DiMino said the two on the motorcycle, in their mid-40s, are hospitalized in Erie County Medical Center with head trauma. Police, who declined Sunday to identify those involved in the crash, said an 80-year-old Cheektowaga woman driving a minivan south on Bowen about 6:30 p.m. turned onto Summerfield into the path of the northbound motorcycle, which she apparently did not see.

The motorcycle struck the front end of the minivan, DiMino said. The motorcyle operator was listed in critical condition in ECMC’s trauma intensive-care unit. His wife was listed in stable but good condition.

Traffic was blocked off for at least two hours.

Police charged the minivan driver with failure to yield the right of way. She suffered minor injuries to her right arm and was released after treatment from Sisters Hospital, St. Joseph Campus, Cheektowaga.
