All who served country deserve proper respect
As a combat Vietnam naval veteran who served aboard the USS Boston (CA-69), I was shocked by a fellow sailor’s recent letter that seeks to deny deserved honor to sailors who perished while gallantly serving our nation during the war. I vividly recall when my ship, en route to Vietnam, entered the channel to the Subic Bay Naval Base (Philippines) and our crew saw the sad remains of the devastated USS Evans. Proper honors were without question given it as our ship passed, just as we paid honor days before to the fallen sailors/service people who perished at Pearl Harbor. There should be no question that the fallen sailors, both those who perished and those who survived, served their country during wartime and deserve continued honor and proper respect.
