Anglers of all ages and experience levels are welcome to compete for cash prizes of up to $3,000 in the first Hooked on Fishing Tournament, which will be held Saturday and June 26 at Gateway Harbor, 1 Young Street.
The tournament includes a competition for biggest fish and opportunities to learn how to fish and how to catch and release. The state Department of Environmental Conservation will teach anglers about the benefits of fishing as well as fishing etiquette. Anglers will also learn about fish native to the area and how to promote clean waterways.
Kids 15 and under are free while the entry fee for anglers 16 and older is $15. No fishing license is required for this DEC-regulated free-fishing weekend.
The tournament runs from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. and is organized by the Northtowns Boys & Girls Clubs.
