NIAGARA FALLS – The Aquarium of Niagara, 701 Whirlpool St., will offer new programs and expanded hours beginning Saturday and continuing through Labor Day.
Executive Director Gary Siddall said the expanded hours and programs are part of what the facility has dubbed internally as “the new Aquarium.”
He said the aquarium hopes to offer new and improved programs that appeal to a broad range of individuals, with later closings in order to allow everyone a chance to find activities and times that appeal to them.
New this summer is a show called “Sea Lion Stories,” with an original soundtrack and choreography; a daily touch-tank session where guests can touch the aquarium’s invertebrates; and a new outreach program presented by Buffalo Animal Adventures that will bring in “animal ambassadors” to educate on the importance of wildlife preservation and conservation.
Favorites such as seal presentations, penguin and seal encounters, and behind-the-scenes tours have also been updated.
Through Labor Day, doors will open at 9 a.m. daily, seven days a week.
The building will remain open until 6:30 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays and 7:30 p.m. Fridays through Sundays.
The aquarium will also cater to adults with its summer night series on July 22 and Aug. 26. It will remain open until 10 p.m. those days and offer wine, food and music to entertain adults.
