Five left homeless by Town of Tonawanda fire

The Red Cross was aiding an adult and four children Saturday after fire erupted about 1:30 p.m. in the rear of a two-story, six-unit apartment house at 50 Longfellow Court in the Town of Tonawanda.

Town police said the fire involved the back of the structure and was not of suspicious origin, although details on the cause were unavailable. The Sheridan Park Fire Company said on Twitter that the fire spread fast in the wood-frame building.

Police estimated the damage to the structure at $20,000. No injuries were reported.
