Jury selection is underway in Erie County Court in the trial of a Lackawanna man accused of killing his wife and then stabbing himself in an effort to blame the crime on an intruder.
Daniel Whiting, 28, has been jailed since his arrest last July. His wife, Ashley Whiting, 21, was stabbed to death in the couple’s home on Madison Avenue in the early morning hours of July 1, while their children, then ages 2 months and 3 years, slept. Whiting called 911 and reported the attack. He sustained what investigators said was a self-inflicted knife wound to the leg. After undergoing surgery and recovering at Erie County Medical Center, Whiting was arrested July 11.
The case is being heard before Judge Kenneth F. Case. Testimony is expected to begin Monday or Tuesday.
