Becker Farms to brew its own beer

Becker Farms is getting into the beer business.

The Gasport farm will launch Becker Brewing Co. this fall.

Owners Melinda and Oscar Vizcarra already make wine under the Vizcarra Vineyards label, using fruit from their own family farm. They’ve built a space next to their current wine making operations to house the brewing equipment.

Vizcarra winemakers Andres Vizcarra and Gary Tarr have been experimenting with different beer recipes, but haven’t yet decided which varieties will hit the menu first. Because it is a fruit farm, the company expects to have several fruity beers, such as blueberry wheat and cherry wheat.

The beer will be served in the farm’s tasting rooms, gastro pub and wedding facilities.

Becker Farms currently produces 20 different types of wine and six types of hard cider. They currently serve several brands of locally brewed beer, but wanted to make their own, Melinda Vizcarra said.

“It seemed like a good next step,” she said.
