The UniverSoul Circus will bring the Big Top to the Outer Harbor (325 Furhmann Blvd.) beginning at 7 p.m. June 1 for a five-day run.
The traveling cast of international performers has delivered more than 10,000 performances to audiences of all ages since premiering 23 years ago under the hands of Atlanta's Cedric Walker. The promoter, who has traveled world-wide to discover his talent, takes immense pride in presenting his multicultural show and believes the circus can be a vital source joy and excitement during such fractured times.
“Just like the circular ring in which it sits, UniverSoul celebrates cultures from around the world and brings them together under the big top,” he said in a prepared statement. “At this time in our history we need to come together, to embrace and learn from each other. I believe the circus naturally brings people together.
Led by Ringmaster Tony Tone, the diverse show, which has been rated as one of the Top 3 circuses performing in America, is set to include a variety of acts and feats including comedy dogs (Chile), extreme motorcycle daredevils (California and Colombia), a cross-cultural "Wheel of Death" (Colombia and Guinea), flying trapeze and pagoda bowls (China), a pole act, a banquine act and contortionists (Ethiopia), limbo dancers (Trinidad and Tobago), clowns (Detroit) and many more, not to mention the comedic chops of the circus' charismatic, Memphis-born Ringmaster.
