LOCKPORT – The campaign to build a new facility for the Lockport Family YMCA is within $1 million of its $10 million goal, thanks to a major donation from the Grigg Lewis Foundation. The foundation’s $1.5 million gift increases its total contribution to the project to $3 million.
The Lockport Family YMCA plans to build a new 52,000-square-foot branch on Snyder Drive to replace a 90-year-old building downtown at 19 East Ave. The new facility will allow for expanded health and wellness programs and more offerings for children, adults, senior citizens and families.
The YMCA plans to ask for support from local businesses, organizations and community members during the coming months in an effort to finish its capital campaign by the end of the year. For information and donations, call Lockport Family YMCA executive director Mark Albiez at 434-8887.
