Four teenagers were injured in a car crash in the Hannum Road Gorge in the Town of Chautauqua early Monday morning when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it struck two trees.
Jevon F. McCorkle, 17, of Ripley was driving west on Hannum when the vehicle hit the trees, rolled over and caught fire. McCorkle and his three passengers – two 16-year-old boys and a 17-year-old boy – were able to get out before the fire swept through the car.
Three of them were taken to Westfield Memorial Hospital for minor treatment, while one was flown by Starflight to Hamot Hospital in Erie, Pa., for a reported neck injury.
Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies, together with the Mayville and Sherman fire departments, responded to the scene and are investigating. McCorkle was charged with unreasonable speed and “operating out of license restrictions.”
